Tribute to Zïlon

24 August 2023 @ 5: 00 PM

To open the Festival, on Thursday August 24 at 5:00 pm, Zïlon’s great accomplice Geneviève Borne will honor him with a reading of “Mon Punk à moi”, her poignant poem dedicated to her friend. She will then present Montréal Symphonique’s spellbinding segment of Prokofiev’s “Roméo et Juliette”, sublimated by Zïlon’s art. This will be followed by a pictorial retrospective of the prolific artist’s career.

A collaborator of the M.A.D. Festival over the years, Zilon’s dazzling creativity has manifested itself in a variety of forms. He’s amazed audiences with his live fashion garments, his on-the-spot paintings and his transformations of unique spaces, such as the container in which he held his 2011 show. His work on the white suit worn by his muse Geneviève Borne, accented with his famous fluo spray paint, and the collaboration on the sculptural wrap dress by designer Elisa C. Rossow in 2014, are testaments to his immeasurable talent.

Zïlon has left an indelible mark on the history of the Festival. Paying tribute to him was an obvious choice.

Our sincere thanks for their invaluable collaboration in the realization of this project go to Vincent Beauchamp (Les Galeries d’art Beauchamp), Geneviève Borne, Chantal Durivage, Jean-François Daviau, Chantal Trudel, Diane Lassonde, Alan Lord, Simon-Pierre Lacaille, Camille Blais-Morneau, Montréal Symphonique, Nicolas Lemieux and GSI MUSIQUE

Their contribution has been essential, and we are deeply honoured to have worked alongside them.
