PROGRAMMATION
The Umoja dance company is composed of 14 professional Afro-descendant dancers with undeniable artistic talents.
Originally from different countries, with diverse dance backgrounds (hip-hop, contemporary, ballet, traditional dances), it is the passion for Afro-Caribbean dances that unites them.
For some of them, these vibrant dance styles were part of their childhood, for others it is the result of a love at first sight. Today, they are motivated to promote these styles on the Quebec scene by showing their beauty and authenticity.
Umoja wants to question the history, codes and customs of their ancestors, but also to establish a dialogue, an exchange that will create bridges towards a better artistic and societal future. Through these choreographic works, Umoja wants to ensure the transmission and influence of Afro-Caribbean dances.
You will discover the vibrant and emotional movements that give rhythm to their culture. To understand their art is to get to know them individually but above all collectively,
By peeling away the layers of our perceptions, we may discover what we all have in common: our humanity.
